A photo of you that represents you and who you are.
Portraits that have a story are forgotten today. We do not think of them anymore. Your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents all had a portrait taken of them at some time in their life, and when we find them in an old book in the attic with think wow look at them during this time.
To me, Portraits are about telling a story. They are about the person in the picture and the story they have to tell. If you take a photo of a chair no matter the amount of photos or angles of that chair, it will always be a chair. It doesn't change. But people do. With just one thought or word, a person's mood can change from happy to sad to anger to pure joy. With people it doesn't matter how many times you take a photo of them, they will always look different, and I think that is one of the fascinating things about people. The micro movements in a person's face and body show a lot about a person. Everyone has a story to tell even if they don't know it yet. It's somewhere deep within them. They just might not be ready to share it with the world.
conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires.
We are constantly looking for self-awareness each, and every one of us right now are looking to know who they are or who they want to be. Trying to find one's self. We might not know right off the bat, and it takes some time to understand who we are and if you do know then that is astonishing, and if you don't, that is okay too. We have to fall to get back up, and we have to keep falling till we can even comprehend who we are. That itself, that process is so beautiful. It's your story. And you are the only one who can tell it. But I want to help by taking your portrait.
The idea behind the portraits is to take a photo of that story, your story. A reflection of yourself and who you are or want to be. A Timeless picture that you can look back on from years to come and remember the things you went through and how far you have come. A portrait to show your parents, your kids and their kids and so forth. Besides the selfie and drunk photos at a party, you don't remember. It's a portrait of you. The person you inspire to be.
A timeless photo of yourself.
Besides being fascinated with people. If you close your eyes and take a deep breath and forget about yourself for one minute and look around, you will see people everywhere with problems, sorrow, happiness and joy. With so many things happening all around us you can start to see these stories. I want to share these moments. I want to give you a voice and have a chance to tell your story. If you don't think you have a story then that is okay, I still want to take your portrait. I want to show the world how beautiful you are. Each and every one of you.
Okay I'm changing my portrait project to story portrait project. Your story, your portrait. And I am no longer charging for story Portraits.
Well, I've been thinking let us step back for a moment.
I feel that there are so many photographers out there thinking how can I make a dollar. Yes, that's important be so many of them forget or don't know what the true meaning of photography is about - Story.
I'm so passionate about people, and what stories they have and all I can ever think about is how I can tell those stories. One of my main reasons I love doing portrait photography is how everyone is different. Your face is like a fingerprint we are all different, and I can take your photo thousands of times and will always get something different, and that is so fascinating to me.
What is a camera for? to me its a tool used to tell stories with and I don't feel that its right for me to say give me your money and tell me your heart out. I believe that you the person are worth more than that and this is the least I can do.
I want to be your outlet. I want to help your voice be heard even louder. A megaphone if you will.
Because what you have to say and what you feel is important because you are important. You are purpose.
Now I'm still going to charge for started types of portraits. These are portraits curated around you and what you want. It's about the beauty and you making you feel special and giving you a product that you want and pay for.
But for your story, it will be about being creative around you trying new things and seeing what we get. Not just about a beautiful photograph. Which means you don't get to pick the final one or have much of a say on how it will look, but I'll make it look great and fit your story so don't worry.
And if you like what I'm doing and want to donate you can do that too. Donations will help keep this alive so that I can tell many more stories.
So don't forget to sign up and let me tell your story
You are powerful and incredible. You are the best version of you.
Let me tell your story:
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BOOK YOUR TIME AND PAY:
The calendar above will allow you to book a time and choose what works for you. And it's Free!
HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?
It's about one hour for each session. I want to get to know you and find the best lighting poses for you. The time is about you.
HOW MANY PHOTOS DO YOU SHOOT IN ONE HOUR?
I’ve been averaging between 200 and 300 photos per 30 minute session. It's a lot of photos but it gets narrowed down to one portrait that tells your story.
WHERE DOES THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?
In my photo studio. 202 E 12th St, Tucson AZ 85701
DO YOU PROVIDE HAIR/MAKEUP?
No please come ready.
WHAT WILL MY PORTRAIT LOOK LIKE?
I want to get to know you, and then we go from there. Each photo will represent you. So each photo is different.
WHY DO YOU (the photographer) GET TO CHOSE THE FINAL PORTRAIT?
We are always looking for the most flattering photo of ourselves, not the one that necessarily tells a story, But don't worry you will look great.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Nothing its Free! Really!
WHAT IS RETOUCHING ANYWAY? WHAT DOES THAT INVOLVE?
I will actually go in and touch up your skin, unwanted wrinkles, pimples, stray hairs, etc. Yes everyone needs this. I wont make you look any different than who you are. It takes about 2 hours to retouch an image. I want to make a look where the person looks their best on their best day not make them look fake or someone else. Just natural. Here’s a video of how it works:
CAN I EDIT MY PORTRAIT AFTER I RECEIVE IT?
Please don't. I know it's tempting, but I spend so much time making the perfect image for you.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Whatever you want to wear because this is your portrait and story to have forever. But it’s good to keep it simple and timeless. Personally speaking, I prefer darker clothes, but it’s up to you.
WHAT GEAR WILL YOU USE?
I’ll be shooting with my Canon 5D Mark III. For lighting, I’ll be using lights and diffusers from Westcott Lighting.
This is also experimental, so I'm trying new things that I haven't tried before.
HOW WILL I GET MY PORTRAIT?
I will choose the strongest portrait, have it retouched and will send you an email with a link to download it within a few days after our shoot. I'll send you a link with some other photos that I selected that tell your story for you to share.
WILL YOU BE SHARING THE STORIES AND PHOTOS?
Yes (but only if that is okay with you, if you want to keep it personal than that is okay too.)
WHERE CAN I SEE THE STORY.
I will be sharing them on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. You can follow the story by following me on Instagram and twitter. Links below.
